Walking tour around “Place de Clichy”

It’s crossed by the Boulevard de Clichy and also by the Boulevard des Batignolles … the beautiful and very parisian Place de Clichy. Join me for a walk in the north of Paris city centre, from Pigalle to the 9th “Arrondissement”: Animated and quite cosmopolitan, the Place de Clichy is perfectly located at the crossroads of four different arrondissements.

Hints and advice from the tourist office

The Place de Clichy is perfectly located at the crossroads of four districts of Paris City: 8th, 9th, 17th and 18th. Completely refurbished at the end of 2010, it offers a lot of space for pedestrians and cyclists. You’ll find a whole lot of places to get lunch, dinner or a drink in one of the many bars, cafes and restaurants in the small streets right next to the square. Cinematics will always find a nice movie in one of the halls of the district. All under the goodwilling eye of Marshal Moncey whose Statue, located in the center of the square, reminds of the courageous defense against the Russian invasion in 1814.

Place de Clichy is also the ideal starting point for a walk to Montmartre (where you’ll find the famous Sacre Cœur Basilica, Place du Tertre or the impressive Montmartre Cemetery). You’ll also pass the area Batignolles (parc and covered food market) on your way.

From Place de Clichy to Pigalle: “This circuit takes in the best of the quartier, but it begins with a little soupçon of the worst. Pigalle is well known as the sleaze district of Paris, but it’s also an area where people live. Any side street off the Boulevard Clichy will contain slices of normal everyday France in the form of a bakery, residential blocks, churches, schools, tabacs. But to catch a fleeting glimpse of the notorious ‘street of sex’, leave Pigalle metro and head left up Boulevard de Clichy.”
